I like the acquisition but the price was too steep to pay.

Good deal for the Flames, but thats a lot of high picks traded in the last few days. Hopefully they can make some deals to get some of those back.

The 1st should be im the late teens at least, unless something catastrophic happens.
And the cost, while high, includes the fact that they have him under team control for 3 yrs at a reasonable price (ie: less than Russell).
I wonder if they still try to bring Stone back, if it is reasonably cheap? He'd be a nice 3D insurance for depth. Otherwise, time to promote a couple prospects

I think Tre knew he was making this deal last night. Chances are he would have picked the guy that Winnipeg took in the 1st round but something scared him off.

I think the philosophy of taking a Dman is that they are worth more than a winger come trade time.

Like have 4 amazing D prospects in the system. We really don't have any RW. But if those guys look good it would make eventually trading one of our current top 4 for a great haul.

I think its smart.

Yes we overpaid but damn if Smith can stand on his head we will be a decent team.

Also look at the potential 3rd line as

Bennet-Janko-Lazar

Which is pretty slick.

Buy out Bouma and trade future hall of famer Hunter Smith to philly for Simmonds and we are set!

Don't we owe our 2nd to Arizona if we make playoffs next year?

It was a steep price to pay but I'm happy we didn't have to trade away any core guys, or any prospects we've been developing.

The prospects we have in our system currently should be enough to replenish our roster over the next few seasons. Our core is young enough to handle not having a first rounder for a few years. Hopefully we make some good selections with the few picks we do have left (4th round magic anyone?)

I don't know why the Islanders make this deal? Unless they plan on flipping the picks for Duchene or some other star?

I'm pretty psyched about our d-core

Also, I'm glad we took a dman with our 1st. We have absolute poop luck using mid first round picks on forwards. Seams like the dmen taken in that range tend to have a much higher upside.

He also seems like the exact type of dman we are missing in our system, need someone to bail out all the offensive dmen we have coming up. Scouts make him sound very similar to Gio when I read the reports

What do you think the bottom 6 forwards will look like?

Seems like it might be time to trade Stajan, Little Ham, and buy out Bouma ffs!

TSN worked it out; if they make the playoffs, then it'll be a 2nd round the year after...

If they add a 1RW...if...

Flames better they are good next season. I'd hate if they missed the playoffs and won the lottery.

Tree seems to have no problem trading away picks. This will eventually bite them in the ass. Reminds me of the Darryl Sutter days. We've basically given up a first and three seconds for Smith And Hamonic.

Honestly though. This is close to the same price we payed for Hamilton. Who was younger and better.

The new rink isn't going to sell itself, got to have a contender first.

Obviously excited for any splash that BT makes, but it does seem like a pretty steep price

One of my buddies mentioned his possession stats are actually worse than Russell's...is that possible!?

Tough to judge right now. Do we buy out bouma? Trade Stajan? Does Janko start at wing? Does Lazar come out flying? Do we grab another top 6 winger?

I'd really like something like:

Johnny-Money-(Neal?)
Janko-Backlund-Frolik
Tkachuk-Bennett-Ferland
Hathaway-Lazar-Chiasson/Brouwer

It's the fourth line that's tough to judge. Basically a battle between Stajan, Lazar, Hathaway, Hamilton, Brouwer and Chiasson. Hopefully we can flip a few of those guys for some mid to late round picks and clear some roster space.

If we re-sign versteeg then Ferland could go back to that top line. But I really want to see a line of Tkachuk-Bennett-Ferland I think Chiasson proved that he could be the perfect 4th line winger--like to see us keep him if we can. Brouwer's contract might guarantee him a spot on that 4th line though

Well the Islanders were a worse team as a whole though. So how good could his stats be? Plus who knows what he can do in a positive atmosphere that is winning.

Part of me keeps thinking at some point Bennett would be our answer to the 1RW.

If you only look at last year...the Isles were a tire fire though.
